Types of Ration Card in Jammu & Kashmir-
Above Poverty Line– Two types of cards are issued to the people above poverty line- Saffron Card- it is issued to the families who are above the poverty line and live in rural area and photo cards are issued to the APL families of Urban Area. Honorary Cards- These are issued for the Identification purpose only. These families do not desire the rationed commodities.
Below Poverty Line-
Green Cards and Yellow Cards are issued to the BPL Families.
Antyodaya Anna Yojana-
It is issued to the poorest of the poor families living in the rural and urban slums.The number of cards so issued is limited to 4.797 lakh families as prescribed by the Government of India.
All the cardholders will get the commodities under the Public from the government at the lower prices. All the cardholders will be issued other essential commodities under the Public Distribution System as decided from time to time by the State Government at the scale and rates fixed by the Government. BPL families get the commodities like Wheat, Rice, Sugar etc. at subsidies prices. APL cardholders will be sold rice and wheat at the scale and rates fixed from time to time.
Eligibility to get the Ration Card in Jammu & Kashmir-
Any person residing in the state.
Application for the new Ration Card shall be made by the Head of the Family. Application can be made on simple paper in the prescribed format or forms are also available in the respective offices. For obtaining computerised ration cards, applicant will be charged Rs. 1/- as fee.

Required Documents for Ration Card in Jammu & Kashmir-
3 passport sized photographs of the applicant and-
For the Proof of the Residence-
Copy of the any of the following documents should be enclosed-
- Identity card issued by the Government or by Public Sector Undertakings
- Latest telephone bill on the name of the applicant
- Recent mail received by the applicant
- Latest LPG receipt on the name of the applicant
- Valid driving license
- Valid Passport
- Valid Identity Card
- Latest Tax Paid Receipt, if living in own house
- Extract of Electoral Poll
- Latest rent-paid receipt, if living in a rented house, clearly indicating the name and complete postal address of the owner

For computerized Card in the Kashmir-
- BPL Families- Rs. 25/-
- APL Families- Rs. 50/-
Duplicate Ration Card in Jammu & Kashmir–
In case of loss of ration card, the Head of the family can apply for a duplicate ration card along with an affidavit about the loss of the card. Duplicate Card will be issued within the time period of 30 days. Before issuance of the Duplicate Ration Card, enquiry procedure will be adopted by the respective authority. Rs. 100 will be charged for the computerized duplicate ration cards in Kashmir. Documents for the Duplicate Card-
